Automated Pit Trading (APT)

Introduced in 1989, APT is the LIFFE screen-based trading system that replicates the open outcry method of trading on screen. APT is used to extend the trading day for the major futures contracts as well as to provide a daytime trading environment for non-floor trading products.

SEAQ lists the market makers' bid and offer prices, together with the Normal Market Size at which those prices will be honoured. Shares traded using SEAQ are said to be traded on the 'quote book'.The very largest companies quoted on the London Stock Exchange are traded on the Stock Exchange Electronic Trading Service (SETS) which automatically matches buyers and sellers, and which is known as the 'order book'. SEAQ is used for those stocks which are too small to be traded on SETS.
