Budget surplus

Refers in general to an excess of income over expenditure, but usually refers specifically to the government budget, where it is the excess of tax revenue over expenditure (including transfer payments).

In the balance of payments, or in any category of international transactions within it, the surplus is the sum of credits minus the sum of debits. Also called simply the "balance" for that category.
