A market for exchange (of currencies, in the case of the exchange market) in the present (as opposed to a forward or futures market in which the exchange takes place in the future).

Spot market

A market in the underlying instrument (for example, shares, commodities etc) on which a futures or options contract is based. This market is for immediate delivery as opposed to future delivery. Also known as cash market or physical market.
